A fantastic and emotionally moving animated short from Sundance. Not for everyone and it is eleven minutes long but I loved it and I'm really happy I watched the whole thing.

The other night, the cover band Lithium (Vancouver's own The Frame)played the entirety of Nirvana's Nevermind while poets stepped up in between each song and recited a poem inspired by the song.

Here's mine. I got Smells Like Teen Spirit. The music starts at 2:00 and I'm on at 6:55.

Here are the rest. Just click on the links to see the song and the poet. Warren's camera didn't catch the last one because the battery ran out but he got most of them.

In Bloom - Sue McIntyre (at 4:25)

Come As You Are - Kimothy Shaughnessy (at 4:15)

Breed - Nora Smithhisler & Steve Locke (at 3:10)

Lithium - Andrea Daniels (at 5:05)

Polly - Warren Dean Fulton (at 3:55)

Then they had a break and started doing poems first and then songs

Territorial Pissings - RC Reslowski

Amnesia Jane Smith did her song during the bridge of Drain You. It starts at 2:19

Drain You - Amnesia Jane Smith

Lounge Act - Sue Cormier

Stay Away/On a Plain - CJ Leon

An amazing night.

I love watch a few things at the same time. I find it really engages my brain. Maybe I'm just super A.D.D. or something. These are a couple of great examples of super-cool things I've seen recently that draw in my attention for longer that a few seconds.

and make this one full-screen by clicking on the little thing on the bottom corner there. The bigger the better with this one.

Oscar-winning short animation from Nicole Mitchell. The hilarious misadventures of a control freak zookeeper. I really like the sound effects and the easy feel of it. See what you think.

A few weeks ago, there was a Bingo Poetry Slam which was pretty good. The team I was on won first place. It was a challenge to write something that avoided all the cliches set forth on the bingo card but I did it. I didn't get one single point deducted. It was a very fun night. This is a strange piece of poetry. Almost anti-slam poetry, really.

See what you think. It gets going around the thirty-second mark.

I think this is hilarious. This wacky 8-minute animated short, SuperGo! by Lindsay Small and Alex Butera defies explanation, so just watch. Alex Butera, you may remember, also brought us the hilarious Baman Piderman.

Many thanks to Warren Dean Fulton who managed to film a majority of the nerd pieces on Monday night at the Nerd Slam. He managed to get my second piece. It's a rather touching poem that compares an old love to an old video game system. People seemed to enjoy it. I hope you do too.

So far, there are a few snippets available from The Nerd Poetry Slam.

Here's Sam Dulmage rocking it out.

And here's Nick Eddy

Awesome on all accounts.

That's right. Time for cool commercials from around the world. Two of them are going for EPIC and the other one is just cute and hilarious, like some sort of real-world LOLcats. See what you think.

This is a pretty neat little pro-Obama campaign rap.

Do yourself a favour and watch this in high quality. The ad itself is no great shakes but the dress made of water that this girl is wearing is one of the most entrancing and well-done effects I've seen all year.

I've seen some Pinky and the Brain pictures done up like Palin and McCain which was hilarious. "Whaddya we do tonight, McCain?" "Same thing we do every night, Palin. Try to take over the world." or "Palin, are you thinking what I'm thinking?" "I think so, McCain, but where are we going to get sixteen ferrets and a pair of rubber pants at this time of night. NARF!"

This also cracks me up.

An old one but a good one. I like this. Also, go to the bottom of your facebook page and change the language to "English (Pirate)". I find it hilarious. Then again, I'm a silly person who is easily amusing.

AWWWWWWWW.

New kids program from brown bag films. I can't get enough of it.

This is great. Wonderfully brutal. It's from the french animation school Gobelins. Their demo reels and final exam projects are better than most North American feature films. See what you think. : )

Apologies if this is old hat. Not having a television or having my finger on the pulse of the music scene in the slightest, this might a track/video that people have been grooving to for the last six months without my knowledge. It's new for me, though, and I can watch it over and over and over and over. Genius is a word that gets tossed around too often but this...is genius.

Inspired by all of those logos from the eighties. Enjoy.

This is beautiful. I wish it was an hour long. Taken from Drawn.ca.

The wonderfully dark and twisted Pearce Sisters from director Luis Cook at Aardman, is finally online in its entirety now that it’s no longer in the Oscar race. View it at AtomFilms, or purchase it on iTunes.

Don’t forget to check out Aardman’s site for some behind-the-scenes videos and sketches detailing the film’s unique hybrid animation style.
