Oh, prison, you scamp. You are an eternal puzzle. What is the most humane way to keep a human segregated from society? Do we keep them comfortably with colour tv, meals, net access and libraries? Do we beat the hell out of them in the hopes that it will terrify them into obeying the rules? Both tactics are controversial, both are expensive, both are not working.

What about a third option?

This simple tiny line made my insides so heavy and sad:

"I walk so slow."

Must you rip my heart out suchly when I'm trying to get ready for bed? Yes. Yes, you must.

YAY! Sorry. I must. I was offered to work with you and the crew on the 29th at the Roadshow but I'll be up in Nelson. So that sucks.

Reminds me of something Jay Grant ([livejournal.com profile] flemco) posted recently, talking about packing up after ComicCon:

I said this a few years ago, at the close of A-Kon in 2005, I think, but it still holds true for me.

Being very old must be a lot like finishing a large convention. All your friends are leaving or gone already. The fun is gone. The magic is gone. Where there was once light and noise and parties is nothing but carpets being rolled up. You don't want it to end - you want the amazing times to keep going. But at the same time, you really, really want to get some rest.

As much as you want it to keep going, you also know that god dammit, you did well and are ready to stop.

Your story resonates and contrasts wonderfully with that sentiment.

Oh, hey, wow, that's a great allegory. I love it. Cheers.
