It’s hard to make an enjoyably-bad B movie on purpose

The whole charm of that kind of film
Is that everyone involved gives a hundred percent
Operates at the top of their game
And still fails spectacularly

Sure, maybe the end result is a mess
But the earnestness of it
That’s the core

If someone tries to ape that
“B movie feel”
But the actors are wink wink
And the set dec is nudge nudge
And the director is being ironic
And there’s no respect for the tenet
If the crew shows up sardonic
To scoff and ridicule
To be above it all
Even if it’s an homage
It won’t work
It’ll be a parody that fails
That punches down and misses

The attempt has to be for real

Cinema needs the faithful
The zealots and missionaries
Who worship at the church of celluloid
And want to make
“A PICTURE!”
The muse of film lives off that passion

It’s like life
Failure as a result of giving your all
Is still wonderful to watch and be a part of
Committing wholeheartedly
And shitting the bed
Is worthy of applause
The more straight the comedy
The funnier it is

I’ll gladly spend time with
The end result of an A-game train wreck
Than a polished condescension

Even if I’m looking in the mirror
